Toulouse. The treasures of Concorde
Sunday, September 18, the new edition of the garage sale rue de la Concorde starts at 5 am. This biannual event, staged by the association of merchants and craftsmen of rue de la Concorde, extends to place Roquelaine, thus becoming the most important garage sale in the city center. “Some bargain hunters are there from 5 a.m. with a flashlight to search and find good deals, notes Jean-Paul Jacquez, organizer and who for the first time is exhibiting his merchandise between furniture, clay busts, trinkets, comics and other feathers peacock and Limoges porcelain. I collected a lot and I decided to sell. The opportunity to clean myself of the superfluous and make a little money”. A garage sale with strict criteria: items in good condition and sold at low prices.
“Each year, thousands of people walk around to have a good time over a drink, chat with friends, but also to buy, chase Jean-Paul Jacquez. There are also a lot of children’s clothes, strollers, toys… Useful things especially in this somewhat complicated back-to-school season where savings are not to be neglected.Nowadays the public favors smart buying and knows that they will find in these garage sales items much cheaper than in the shops traditional. Hence the great enthusiasm of the public for this kind of event”. There is also, according to this exhibitor, among the public, the desire to have at home vintage and singular objects, far from everyday consumption. Finally, the garage sale is also an opportunity to give a second life to objects and thus to prevent waste: “You know it is always rewarding to tell your friends that you have found a branded jacket for a few euro”. Scheduled for the first time in 2001, the year of the AZF disaster, this garage sale had been canceled and postponed for a week. Since then it has not weakened, bringing together no less than 250 exhibitors. An animation decided jointly since part of the profits is donated to the fund of the Schools of the City and for the organizer of the animations on the district.
