Toulouse City Hall’s electricity and gas bills are rising
The electricity bill for the Town Hall of Toulouse and the Metropolis increases by 40% in 2022. That of gas goes into a spin and climbs by 231%.
Unlike individuals, professionals and communities are not protected by the tariff shield. The latter therefore bear the full brunt of the increase in the cost of energy, depending on the contract negotiations. The Pink City is no exception.
During his traditional back-to-school press conferenceorganized Thursday, September 15, the mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc (LR) announced that the Town Hall and the Metropolis are confronted in 2022 with “a 40% increase in the electricity bill, and 231% on the gas”. The municipality’s electricity bill alone has risen from 12 to 17 million euros in the space of just one year.
The increase in electricity less significant in 2023
“We are undergoing this shock”, launched the mayor of Toulouse. He announces that he does not intend to pass this increase on to taxpayers. According to the city councilor, the grouping of orders from suppliers with the other municipalities of the Metropolis plays a role of cost absorber in the face of the outbreak. Also, an energy saving plan for the winter will be presented in October.
For the period from 2023 to 2025, the communities also expect increases, but they should be less significant. The City of Toulouse expects an increase of 18% for the electricity bill and 59% for the gas.
Tisséo spared, for now
For its part, the public transport authority of the Toulouse conurbation, Tisséo, has not yet had to deal with rising energy costs. The bill for six million euros in 2022 is blocked until the end of the year. In 2023, it could reach 24 million euros. But again, the increase should not be passed on to users after the price increases decided during the summer.
