the League against cancer inaugurates its “House” for patients
The House of the League against Cancer, a temporary accommodation for patients and their relatives, will be taken care of on September 26 in Toulouse. It will welcome the first patients at the end of 2022.
It is a “precursor and unique project in France”. After several months of work, the Maison de la Ligue contre le cancer will finally be shut down on September 26. This place, located on the Campus Santé du Futur – Oncopole de Toulouse, offers accommodation to patients and their relatives. Some live far from the health center.
This concerns the majority of patients, since 55% of patients followed at theToulouse-Oncopole University Cancer Institute (IUCT) live outside the department. In response, the Haute-Garonne committee of the league against cancer therefore decided to create a temporary accommodation near the IUCT.
The House will open its doors to patients from the end of 2022
“This place will be a real home: patients and relatives likely to suffer there, before, during and after their treatment. They could rest there, recharge their batteries, in a warm atmosphere respectful of their needs, in order to improve their quality of life throughout the course of care”, explains Marie-Ange Léophonte, the director of the committee, in a statement.
The House of the League against Cancer will open its doors to patients undergoing treatment, geographically isolated (+50 kilometres), but also socially, from their care center and their relatives from the end of 2022. The price per night and per room will be from 12 euros. A deposit of 80 euros will also be requested on arrival.
What will this house have for patients in Toulouse?
In addition to single rooms for patients and their relatives, the House has a dining room and a common kitchen, a relaxation and sharing room, a physical activity room and spaces dedicated to treatments. Outside, patients and their families could enjoy a therapeutic garden.
At a cost of 2.8 million euros, this project encouraged the support of the Occitania region, Toulouse Metropolisthe Total Energies Foundationthe Pierre Fabre Group, the Engie Foundation and also from The Heritage Foundation. The House has also taken place in a building located in the perimeter of the Historic Monuments and disused since the explosion of AZF.
