Saving energy: City politicians are considering measures

Saving energy is currently the big topic everywhere: the city of Salzburg is also considering specific measures and is looking to Graz. Because in the Styrian capital you are a bit further than in Salzburg.
The City of Graz lists eight specific measures on its website that it intends to use to save energy. In Salzburg, they are currently working on internal instructions to reduce electricity costs, says city councilor Martina Berthold (Green Citizens’ List). “Here, like in Graz, we will recommend lowering the room temperature by reducing the heating thermostat levels. That means a maximum of level three.”
Less lighting, less hot water
Reduced lighting, reduced hot water, and soon cleaning will only be done with cold water, adds Berthold. And “just like in Graz, we will also implement the renunciation of hot water when washing hands. Other energy-saving measures include turning off the lights in offices during the day when there is enough light, or more targeted ventilation.”
What is not happening in the city of Salzburg is a general reduction in room temperature to 19 degrees. Technically, this is hardly feasible, because the Mirabell Palace, for example, is a single heating circuit, and one obviously does not want to be exposed to the protests of employees who are freezing. And it is also completely open how to deal with energy guzzlers such as indoor swimming pools in terms of water and room temperature in winter.
