Discover Luxembourg’s air defense fleet
On the occasion of the Luxembourg Defense Open Air Days, organized on the weekend of 1 and 2 October at Findel airport, the management of La Défense reveals itself a little more by offering visitors the opportunity to discover part of its fleet.
The event should attract the curious as it is traditionally rare for the army and the defense to reveal themselves so much. The Luxembourg Defense Open Air Days will therefore be an ideal opportunity to get a closer look at part of the Grand Duchy’s military air fleet.
Five aircraft on display
During this first weekend of October, five aircraft were chosen by the Defense Department to be exhibited on the tarmac of Luxembourg-Findel airport. Among them, three planes, a drone and a helicopter which will illustrate the diversity of the Luxembourg air defense panoply.
The following will thus be visible to the general public:
- An Airbus A400M : it is a transport plane that is part of the Belgian-Luxembourg binational fleet;
- An Airbus A330 Multi-Role Transport Tanker (MRTT). It is also a strategic transport aircraft, allowing in-flight refueling and medical evacuation of the multinational MRTT fleet (MMF – Multinational MRTT Fleet). This fleet is made up of six participating nations (Germany, Belgium, Norway, Czech Republic, Netherlands and Luxembourg);
- A Beechcraft BE350 ISR : a maritime reconnaissance and surveillance aircraft, contracted with DEA Aviation and currently operating within the framework of the IRINI mission, for securing the Mediterranean on a mandate from the European Union;
- An Airbus H145M : it is a light multi-role helicopter of the Luxembourg army, equipped and made available to the Grand-Ducal police for police surveillance and search missions;
- An Insitu Integrator : this is an SRTUAS (Short Range Tactical Unmanned Aerial Systems) drone for reconnaissance and tactical surveillance of the Luxembourg army.
Cherry on the cake : the Airbus A400M will be open to the public who will therefore be able to visit it from the inside. In addition, demonstrations of surveillance cameras from the Airbus H145M helicopter and the Beechcraft BE350 ISR are also carried out. Next to the devices, experts and the military will be present to answer questions from visitors.
