The Prime Minister hopes that there will be no early parliamentary elections
Prime Minister Eduard Heger (OĽANO) hopes that there will be no early parliamentary elections. He stated this during the Thursday discussion show TV Joj Na hrane.
Heger pointed to several reforms that he managed to implement. These are, for example, reforms in the field of education, healthcare and justice. He also drew attention to the investments to be directed to Slovakia from the recovery plan.
According to him, Slovakia is in a time when people need to see that they are united, similar to what happened during the pandemic. They reaffirmed that they are in a minority government and refuse to rule with fascists. He believes that Richard Sulík (SaS) will keep his promise and the parliament session will be open next week. “We didn’t break up with the SaS in a bad way, we didn’t drive them out,” said the prime minister, adding that the SaS decided to leave. However, he finds it absurd that they left at the very moment when Slovakia is suffering from an energy crisis.
“Citizens don’t need to know what status a politician wrote. They need to know what this government has done for them,” said Heger. At the same time, he stated that during their government they should increase the salaries of, for example, health workers or in education.
He considers Heger to be a strong leader and thinks that he can “coach” even the Minister of Finance and OĽANO leader Igor Matovič. He said that since he took office as prime minister, he had heard that he was “Matovič’s puppet” or that they would not be able to reform universities, the judiciary or national parks.
The prime minister is satisfied with the new Ministry of Economy, Karl Hirman. He also has no doubts about the head of the Department of Justice, Viliam Karas. According to him, he is an expert who comes to the Ministry of Justice prepared. He did not want to specify who could be the new head of the Ministry of Education.
During the discussion session, he also commented on the topic of energy prices and inflation. “Electricity prices in Slovakia for households are capped until the end of the year. In terms of electricity prices, citizens still pay the same at the level of 2021 and significantly less than the surrounding country,” he said. As he added, in the next period they want to introduce other measures to help people.
