Okafor saved Salzburg a point against Chelsea
Chelsea had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Salzburg despite the overwhelming advantage. Noah Okafor scored as he did against AC Milan.
London. No Champions League anthem, but a wreath-laying ceremony and applause, “God save the Queen” chants and a quick minute’s silence: Chelsea knows how to celebrate football festivals and at the same time pay respect to those who have died. With the kick-off, however, the reluctance was over and the “Blues” had to settle for a 1-1 draw against Salzburg despite the overwhelming superiority.
English high-speed football knows no compromise. Whether in attack or in the (highly pressed) defence: Chelsea ran, kept the ball and passed – but the Bulls were not irritated for a long time. There was always a foot or a leg in between, whether Sterling, Kovacic (born in Linz), Mount (25th) or Aubameyang: the goal didn’t work. But, under new coach Graham Potter, Chelsea’s stars are making football fun again.
When Sterling escaped
And Salzburg’s first shot on goal? He was a long time coming at this defensive festival, Šeško (40th) tested Chelsea keeper Kepa; after all. The main focus is on defense. Dedić didn’t always have Sterling under control, through whom all quick counterattacks went – even when it was 0-1 (48′). Then he had escaped him after a turn.
Salzburg kept up, but was inferior to England. And then the equalizer came out of nowhere: Okafor scored again (75th) and saved a point with the 1-1 Salzburg.
In the parallel game, AC Milan had no trouble with Zagreb, winning 3-1. The Croatians are Salzburg’s next opponents (October 5). Then the cops have to win. (Fin)
