German television prize also for Austria: Iris Berben, 3sat and drag queen format among the winners
The German Television Prize has been awarded for outstanding television performances since 1999; It is a cooperation between ZDF, Sat.1, ARD and RTL. In a visual mixture of sweets and flower meadows, Barbara Schöneberger followed, as usual, listening through the gala in Cologne (but changed her clothes) before she left for Austria for the “Starnacht an der Wachau”. As with Romy in Vienna, the creative people behind the scenes were also honored: in the TV series, the gloomy Sky production “Der Pass”, in which the red-white-red epo film by the Pochlatko family from Graz is involved, and the ARD series “Eldorado KaDeWe – Now is our time” was successful, each of which brought in two prizes.
“Der Pass” (Sky season three is already being filmed) won in the director (Cyrill Boss, Philipp Stennert) and camera (Philip Peschlow) categories. “Eldorado KaDeWe – Now is our time” prevailed in terms of equipment (Petra Albert) and music (Inga Humpe, Tommi Eckart, Matthias Petsche).
The historical drama “Die Wannseekonferenz” (starring Philipp Hochmair and Simon Schwarz, among others), in which the ORF was also involved and which has already been sold in around 50 countries, won the award for best TV film of the year.
The “Kulturzeit” team, which is produced with Schweizer Fernsehen and ORF for 3sat and has been on the air every working day since 1995, was able to celebrate as the winner in the “Best Information” category. Giovanni Zarrella, who just released the album “Per semper” (featuring Italian versions of world hits like “Careless Whisper” and “Angels”) was awarded Best Entertainment Host. After the premiere of Zarrella’s own ZDF show, we recommended that Alexander Hofer, head of entertainment at the ORF, get on board and share responsibility for it.
In the broadcaster’s competitive show division, Johannes Spiecker was able to win for “Who is stealing the show?” based on an idea by Joko Winterscheidt with him and Klaas Heufer-Umlau (ProSieben, Best Entertainment Director and awarded for the second time as the best entertainment show ever) and Envy Peru & Bambi Mercury for “Viva la Diva – Who is the Queen?” (RTL, best equipment entertainment) happy about trophies. Maybe this will inspire ORF program director Stefanie Grois-Horowitz for the ORF 1 construction site.
Jan Böhmermann (41) and his “ZDF Magazin Royale” team are happy about the trophy for the best book in entertainment. The format “Kampf der Realitystars” (RTL 2, filmed after a “shipwreck on the dream beach”) was able to boot the popular RTL jungle camp in the reality show division.
The jury honored “LOL: Last One Laughing” with Michael Bully Herbig (Amazon Prime) as the best comedy format. TV icon Iris Berben was honored with the donor’s honorary award for her life’s work. “She is, in the best sense of the word, a great character actress who has been inspiring film and television creators and, last but not least, audiences for centuries,” it said at the award ceremony.
