Toulouse. Near Saint-Pierre, this project will transform the surroundings of a prestigious school
This is one of the big development projects to come in the city center. A project that will also have a strong symbolic value.
By 2025, Toulouse Metropolis will launch the construction site for the forecourt of the school of economics of Toulouse, the Toulouse School of Economics (TSE), at the edge of Brienne canal, a stone’s throw from Saint-Pierre square.
Not just a court
This project will not be limited to the school forecourt, but will extend to part of the banks of the Brienne canal, laying the first stone here of the Grand Parc Canal project, an ongoing reflection that will lead to the redevelopment of the banks. of the city’s two canals and their enhancement throughout the territory of Toulouse Métropole.
Put an end to the catch-all
In front of the TSE, it is a total change of philosophy that is imagined. Currently, space is a catch-all where we find traffic lanes, parking spaces and ultimately a lot of tar. The current situation is a direct result of the way Toulouse was built in the 1970s.
In this place, little has changed in 50 years.
Reduce traffic, revegetate, enhance heritage
This Toulouse “vintage” has gradually disappeared from the strategic points of the Pink City to leave more space for soft modes and pedestrians. This was the goal of the Busquets plan launched more than ten years ago. It is in this wake that the firm of Jacqueline Osty places itself to develop the forecourt in front of TSE.
“There are several issues surrounding TSE underlines Ghislaine Delmond, the neighborhood mayor. Creating a forecourt is already providing a peaceful space in terms of traffic, it is also, in the context of global warming, making a great effort of revegetation and it is finally highlighting the heritage elements which are not lacking like Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines, the ramparts of the medieval town. »
Two scenarios
For several months, a reflection has been carried out with the local residents so that they can put forward their ideas. Conversely, several scenarios have been posed and presented. Overall, these scenarios propose, compared to the current situation, the reduction of car traffic on the forecourt or its virtual elimination from the forecourt.
The future forecourt
The architectural firm proposes the removal of the parking lot located along the remains of the rampart, which allows car traffic to be diverted a little further.
This plan also provides for the planting of trees and grass in front of Saint-Pierre-des-Cuisines.
The redevelopment of the banks of the Brienne canal
The development of a forecourt for the TSE is inseparable from the development of the banks of the Brienne canal, up to the level of rue Lancefoc.
This project will be a prefiguration of what Toulouse residents will be able to find within the framework of the Grand Parc Canal.
Less parking
What is looming along the canal is the removal of the majority of parking spaces. Although according to the elected, these deletions are not decided at the present time.
According to the announced schedule, the development could be delivered in 2025. The current consultation will end on September 22, 2022.
