Energy crisis: Belgium’s plan to avoid gas shortages
The emergency plan has been updated. If the country were to run out of gas this winter, companies and administrations would be the first to be affected.

NOTshould our country fear natural gas shortages this winter? For several months now, despite the continuous drop in deliveries of Russian gas – which accounted for only 6% of Belgian consumption before the outbreak of war in Ukraine – the government has sought to be reassuring: our country is a hub of gas transport on the western side of the continent, thanks to the Zeebrugge gas hub where Norwegian gas arrives (via the Zeepipe gas pipeline), British gas (via the Interconnector) and large cargoes of liquefied natural gas (via the LNG terminal and the connection with that of Dunkirk). “We remain clearly exporters of gas to Germany, France and the Netherlands”, reminds the office of the Federal Minister of Energy, Tinne Van der Straeten (Groen).
