His own response to the provocative statements of Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akarwas given by the government representative Yiannis Oikonomou, who, among other things, spoke of “rhetorical frenzy” and “extremities based on lies, in discrimination of history, international legality, the Treaties, the reality that exists in the Aegean” from the side of Ankara.
“These lies are constantly repeated, but the monotonous repetition of a lie does not make it true, and this has been realized by the entire international community. Greek diplomacy responds in a very effective way to the challenges and to the anecdotal and non-existent of the Turkish side and I think that the reach and resonance of our views is confirmed by different events in all the lengths and breadths of the planet”.
He added that “it is the permanent position of the Greek government that we have closed the doors to challenges and obviously we are completely adamant on the issues concerning our sovereign rights and our national sovereignty and from then on we always have the windows of dialogue open” .
He also underlined that the prime minister has never refused dialogue or discussion and that the strength of our operations is based on international law and we have proven that our country is a force of stability in the Aegean and the South-East Mediterranean, fully aligned with allies and partners . us and against revisionism, with absolute respect for the sovereign rights of the states and with good neighborliness on the condition of course that these will be mutually accepted by both sides”.
He also said that the country has made huge leaps in recent years in strengthening its deterrent capability which adds to our confidence.
Mr. Economou also said that Turkey must realize that this persistent tactic of rhetorical outbursts and provocations may serve the domestic political situation for Turkey’s officials “but it is absolutely a dead end.”
He emphasized that “it is to Turkey’s advantage to realize that the wavelength that is broadcasting to the entire Western world is now in the logic of stability, peace and respect for international law without asterisks and footnotes”.
