Poisonous air again in Dimitrovgrad. Record levels of pollution have been reported in recent days. This necessitated the temporary shutdown of the “Maritsa 3” thermal power plant, which is cited as a major polluter. The measuring station in the center of the city reported record values on Saturday before noon. The sulfur dioxide value was over 2000 units.

Veselin Karadzhov said on the air of “Hello, Bulgaria” that residents of Dimitrovgrad complained of difficulty breathing and a strong smell of sulfur. “There is no other industrial enterprise on the territory of Dimitrovgrad that can technologically release sulfur dioxide, so we cannot blame another enterprise,” he adds.
Nataliya Pachemanova, who is the director of RIOSV – Haskovo, said that in the following hours of Saturday, an order was issued at TPP “Maritsa 3” to stop its activity for 48 hours. According to her, the regional eco-inspection has a new coercive administrative measure.
