AS Monaco Mercato: After the victory against Lyon, Philippe Clément wanted to be reassuring about his goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.
AS Monaco Mercato market: Philippe Clément confident for Alexander Nübel
Victorious in Nice on the last day, AS Monaco continued this Sunday at home against Lyon. ASM dominated Olympique Lyonnais (2-1) at Louis II at the end of the 7th day of Ligue 1 Uber Eats. After the victory against Lyon, Philippe Clément spoke about Alexander Nübel. The Monegasque goalkeeper is the subject of some criticism given his start to the season. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has already conceded 16 goals in 10 official games this season. But nothing to worry about his coach who recognizes some shortcomings but still gives him his confidence.
“He is really criticized a lot here in France. Last year, we received a study from a university that looked at the statistics of all goalkeepers in France, and Nübel was second only to Gianluigi Donnarumma because of small errors, his footwork which is from time to time too risky”, first noted the coach of the princely club at the microphone of First video.
Nubel without a future in Monaco?
For Philippe Clément, Alexander Nübel is one of the best in his position. “For me, Alex has the qualities to be part of the Top 10 of the best goalkeepers, but he is still a young player who has to grow up,” defeated the AS Monaco coach. Number one porter for the Principality club, the German’s future at ASM remains uncertain. He landed on loan without an option from Bayern Munich since last summer.
The German goalkeeper is coming to the end of his contract this summer. Unless there is a change, he should therefore return to Bavaria at the end of his Monegasque freelance. He is still linked to Rekordmeister 2025. It remains to be seen whether he will again accept a role as Manuel Neuer’s understudy after two seasons as a starter in the Principality.
