Charles Leclerc second in a race won by Max Verstappen
The reigning world champion once again disgusted the competition by winning at Monza. The Monegasque driver had to settle for second place, despite his start from pole position.
A week after his podium in the Netherlands, Charles Leclerc chained to Monza, with a second place. Starting from pole position, the Monegasque driver was unable to do anything in the race to resist the return of Max Verstappen (Red Bull), untouchable this season and who signed his fifth consecutive victory.
A Grand Prix that ended behind the safety car, the last five laps being “sacrificed” to free Daniel Ricciardo’s (McLaren) car. To the great dismay of the public, but especially of Charles Leclerc, who could have gotten involved in the fight for victory in the final laps.
Max Verstappen further widens the gap
” It’s frustrating. We shouldn’t end the race like thishe regretted. I hope to win today in front of the tifosis. We had a good pace but it wasn’t enough. I want to thank everyone for the support. The atmosphere is always amazing here in Monza. »
In the world championship, Charles Leclerc moved into second place (219 points), ahead of Sergio Perez (209 points) and far behind Max Verstappen (335 points). Next meeting, on October 2, for the Singapore Grand Prix.
