Shmyhal noted the IMF’s passivity
In recent months, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has been passive in relations with Ukraine. The parties cannot agree on a new financing program.
The IMF demonstrates a “fairly passive attitude” to support Kyiv, while the US and Europe take a leading political position. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this on Saturday, September 10, at the Yalta European Strategy (YES) meeting.
“Of course, we have been working with the IMF all this time, we had good relations in 2014-2015, when this war began. The Fund for Leadership Support in Ukraine, we received $17 billion in support,” he said.
According to him, today cooperation with the IMF is completely passive. Shmyhal emphasized that the Ukrainian side has handed over the documents and calls on partners to intensify their activities.
“This is very important, because the IMF is an important support for the further movement of our state with our partners. We work almost every day with the IMF team. unfortunately, we have relative slippages in IMF support,” Shmyhal added.
The prime minister also noted that the government of Ukraine, which estimates the need to finance the state budget in war conditions in 2022 at approximately $5 billion per month, intends to reduce this indicator to $3 billion per month next year.
“We understand that it is necessary for the state budget deficit to be about $3 billion per month,” he said.
The Prime Minister of Ukraine says that international support will cover up to 40% of the Ukrainian budget this year.
