This is not good for us
Breiðablik woke up ÍBV at Hásteinsvelli today in the Best Women’s Soccer League and the teams have a goalless draw.
There was a lot of rain in Vestmannaeyjar and the course was therefore very wet and difficult.
“The conditions really controlled the trip today and that’s how it suits us, as we want to keep the ball and move it quickly between the players on the ground. It was not a possibility today,” said Natasha Anasi as Breiðabliks in an interview with mbl.is after the match.
Breiðablik’s coach Ásmundur Arnarsson asked Elías’s coach Inga Árna when the first half of the game was about to take place and ask the question whether it would be possible to continue due to other circumstances. Elías, on the other hand, wants the game to continue.
“I put a question mark on continuing the game because it was a completely different sport that the spectators got to watch today and it can only be very dangerous, but the referee considered it playable and that’s just the way it is. We tried our best and fought hard to keep clean, but the results were not what we wanted,” she added.
ÍBV received a penalty in the 84th minute. Madison Wolfbauer stepped to the point but was unable to get the ball into the goal.
“They get cheap penalties that they burn off, so maybe it was a fair result in a game that was just a battle for 90 minutes and not much beautiful football,” said Natasha about the result of the game.
By getting one point against ÍBV today, Breiðablik lost valuable points in the battle with Val for the Icelandic championship title and now has 29 points against Val’s 35 points.
“Of course, we planned to be here in Eyju, but we can’t do anything other than focus on ourselves and show up to the final rounds without any hesitation. The season is 18 games and we’re going to finish it in style and then we’ll just see what it brings us,” she finally said in an interview with mbl.is.
The team’s next game is against Val on the Origo field on September 13.
