5 points in 6 games, 15e League 1 : Toulouse FC saw a difficult return to the elite, and conceded, Sunday September 4, 2022, his third consecutive defeat, in Clermont (2-0). But Philippe Montanier’s troops are almost to the top of a classification: that of fair play!
Second in the standings
After 540 minutes played on Ligue 1 pitches, Toulouse FC has yet to take off. But in the fair play classification, it comes to the second row, since he has only conceded nine yellow cards since the start of the season. There is only one team which does better, it is Lorient, leader, with eight yellow cards.
The first places in the fair play ranking:
- 1uh : Lorient, 8 points
- 2e : Toulouse, 9 points
- 3e : Betting, 12 points
- 4are : Lyon, Lens and Strasbourg: 12 points (1 red card)
How is the ranking established?
The fair play ranking is established as follows: a yellow card is worth one point, two yellow cards leading to a red are worth three points, and a direct red card is worth five points. You guessed it, this time around, the team with the fewest points is the best ranked.

A fact that takes on a little more importance when you go down the rankings, where many teams have been reduced to 10 several times this season. Montpellier in summer four times, three times for Auxerre, Monaco and Reims, and twice for Nice, Angers, Rennes and Ajaccio. 29 red cards were distributed in 60 matches. And none for the TFC!
Refereeing singled out
Two reds during the first day, three the following week… but above all 10 in as many matches during the third weekend, pushing the total number of red cards up to 15 in just 29 games. And if the most optimistic thought it was just a bad patch, the next three days were just as scarlet, with 14 failed evictions.
This start to the season was also the scene of a big blow of anger, that of the president of Reims. At the end of the match against Lyon (1-1), on August 28, Jean-Pierre Caillot had strongly charged the men at the whistle: ” we’re fed up with this arbitration français. There is error after error, always on the same side”. Vibe…
