► Exactly 3,821,881 people were registered in Berlin in June – and thus around 46,400 more than at the end of the year. And they live in 1,982,825 apartments, which according to the 2021 housing market report are in the capital. Most in Pankow (221,718), fewest in Spandau (121,704).
► The almost two million apartments in the capital are located in 171,177 detached houses, 34,874 two-family houses and 1,717,985 multi-family houses. In addition, in 29,029 dormitories and in 29,760 so-called non-residential buildings, for example in a commercial building.
► On average, Berlin’s apartments are 73.2 square meters, the largest living areas are in Steglitz-Zehlendorf (85.4 square meters), the smallest in Lichtenberg (65.6 square meters).
► In purely mathematical terms, 1.9 people live in each Berlin apartment, so according to the statistics, every capital city resident has an average of 38.5 square meters of living space at their disposal.
► The range of asking rents (net cold in euros per square meter) in Berlin ranges from 6.45 to 18.78 euros on average. On average, the highest rents are due in Mitte at EUR 14/sqm, and the lowest in Spandau (EUR 8.22/sqm).
