Breel Embolo offers victory to Monaco against Red Star Belgrade
Minimum service for AS Monaco who overcame Red Star Belgrade (0-1) on the first day of Group H of the Europa League. Entering the game, Breel Embolo scored the decisive penalty.
The first half was pretty balanced. No buts but opportunities and a lot of energy from Monaco and Belgrade. The forwards weren’t always inspired but the goalkeepers pulled off a fine save: first Milan Borjan who repelled Youssouf Fofana’s strike well, while Alexander Nübel came in against Osman Bukari. Everything remained to be done for the two teams in search of realism and efficiency to materialize their highlights of the first act.
In the second half, it was Etoile Rouge who printed the biggest chances with in particular a bar hit on Kanga’s long shot from almost 40 meters or even Katai’s free kick shot on the left side which nearly startled Nubel. On a cross from Diatta, Golovin collapsed in the area: a hook-paw from Srnic led to the penalty transformed by Embolo.
In the other meeting of group H, Ferencvaros reduced to ten made short work of Trabzonspor (3-2) this Thursday evening. Next week, the Monegasques will host Feren on the Rock, while the Serbs will face Trabzonspor in Turkey.
