an nursing home without an attending physician since 2019
Since 2019, the nursing home in Granada has been faced with medical desertification. The 153 residents are deprived of an attending physician. The departure of the coordinating doctor, whose role is not to treat, further complicates the situation.
SOS doctor or 15. This is the only solution for the 153 residents of the Granada nursing home north of Toulouse. Since a conflict opposed the management of the establishment and the liberal doctors, the latter refused to intervene with the patients. Beyond this conflict, the director of the nursing home is struggling to recruit a salaried doctor. Families are devastated.
It is an imbroglio between the treating physicians of several residents and the management of the establishment which has brought about this grotesque situation. In 2019, the management wishes to put some order in the practices of certain doctors whom it considers abusive: some would have for example declared 3 trips when they visited 3 patients of this Ehpad. Refuting these accusations, the doctors refuse, since that date, to intervene with patients.
On the one hand, the management explains to the families that the doctors no longer want to come. On the other, the doctors believe they have been “fired” from the nursing home.
Discussions were held between the management and private sector doctors. But, as often, they do not smoke new patients. And in the rare cases where they accept them, they do not make home visits, so to the Ehpad. For Didier Carles, the director, the situation is untenable.
We share the concerns of the families. Our residents are often very vulnerable. But we only have refusals from the doctors. Medical desertification is also that!

The director even speaks of an urgent need.
“For families, it’s panic”
François Knab knows the Granada nursing home well. He has been coming here twice a week for 6 years, to visit his mother. He does not understand how it could have come to this.
It is more than worrying! It’s the panic ! The nurses do a great job, but they can’t do everything and they don’t have the right to prescribe if there is a problem.
François Knab, son of a resident and member of the CVS, social life council
For François Knab’s mother, as for the other residents, the only solution is the SAMU or SOS doctor.
Until last August a coordinating doctor was present but he is responsible for leading the healthcare team. He is not the residents’ attending physician.
The CVS, council of social life which represents the families of residents, will meet on Monday 12 September. A meeting in the presence of the management of the establishment, whose families expect a lot.
This is a meeting that was already planned, but with what is happening, we already know that the questions will relate to this absence of a doctor!

The management is even considering hiring a doctor on the site to compensate for the lack of doctors on the territory. But there too, for the moment, there is no candidate…
