Use of drinking water: restriction measures are extended in Toulouse and Haute-Garonne

The hydrological situation is far from being back to normal, in Haute-Garonne and Toulouse. The prefect, Etienne Guyot, confirmed it, Wednesday September 7, 2022, by announcing the continuation of restrictive measures in terms of water withdrawal.
Low throughput records
It was during a water committee, the seventh of the year, that the prefect of Haute-Garonne gave a progress report on the meteorological and hydrological situation and on the state of advancement of irrigated crops. And the findings are still alarming. “With the very high temperatures of July and August, coupled with a very significant rain deficit (deficit of around 75% in the months of July and August in the middle Garonne), the hydrological situation is very clearly in deficit in Haute-Garonne”, deplores the prefecture, pointing to “recordings of low flows regularly observed in the middle and downstream Garonne”.
Prolonged measures
If the beginning of September 2022 is not booked from heat wave Similar to those traversed in June, July and August, the situation has not yet returned to normal. Far from theresince the restrictions on water withdrawal must be extended.
“Concerning uses from the drinking water network, the entire department is currently on heightened alert, which leads to restrictions in the use of water. The measures taken on August 9, 2022 have been stopped and remain applicable. .”
All the communes of the department have, in fact, been on heightened alert since August 9. This measure involves the 3.5 day ban on direct debiting per week (or 50% limitation of the flow for collective irrigation) for withdrawals from watercourses and groundwater (excluding drinking water) and application of specific restrictions concerning drinking water for all users.
These restrictions are manifold, such as the ban washing vehicles outside professional stations, filling private swimming pools, watering lawns, public and private green spaces and sports grounds. Open-circuit public fountains must, except those delivering drinking water, remain closed.
What measures are in place?
Other measures are in effect since August 26, 2022, in the department of Haute-Garonne. The voices in detail:
- Total ban sampling: Wolp and Salat basins
- Total ban except derogatory crops : rivers connected to the Neste canal and the branch canals
- Direct debit restriction 2 days per week (or limitation of 30 % flow rate for collective irrigation): North Garonne and lateral canal, Garonne upstream Valentine, Hers-Mort
- Direct debit restriction 3.5 days per week (or limitation of 50% flow rate for collective irrigation): Median Garonne between Portet and Valentine, Saint Martory canal, the Tarn, the Ariège to its confluence with the Garonne, the Hers vive
