Three tons of plastic caps were “transformed” into a special type of baby carriage
Three tons of plastic caps were “transformed” into a special type of wheelchair that was donated to the 4th University Pediatric Clinic of the Papageorgiou hospital thanks to a solidarity action of the International Police Union of Thessaloniki.
The Union collected three tons of plastic caps, which were recycled and sold with the aim of obtaining the wheelchair, which is made of aluminum, which makes it particularly light.
The wheelchair has a special mechanism that covers the medical consumables so that the psychology of small patients is not burdened additionally.
The donation was made with the contribution of the “Pammetaliki Hardalis” company, while the teenage basketball team of the International Police Union also contributed to the solidarity initiative, collecting caps.
The announcement in detail:
“With particular joy and satisfaction, we delivered today 06/09/2022 to the Pediatric Clinic of the PAPAGEORGIOU Hospital of Thessaloniki, the third children’s wheelchair of a special type, which was purchased from the plastic caps we collected after a collective effort of about two years, reminding that the the first was delivered on 04/09/2018 to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic of the AHEPA Hospital of Thessaloniki and the second on 07/10/2019 to the Pediatric Oncology Clinic of the Hippocrates Hospital of Thessaloniki for the implementation of the minimum contribution of the European Union to society as a whole.
The representatives of our Union, 1st Vice President Mr. CHRISTODOULI Christodoulos, G.G. Mr. KANELLI Diamanti, President of the Cultural Affairs Committee, Mr. FETKO Stavros and a delegation of athletes from the teenage basketball team, were welcomed by the General Director of the Hospital, Mr. EMMANOUILIDIS Kon/nos, the President of the Board of Directors. of the Hospital Mrs KARABIOTIS Michael, the Director of the Pediatric Clinic Dr FOTOULAKI Maria, the Head of Pediatrics Mrs KARABIOTIS Michael. KALIGA Athanasia and the Head of Press Office and Public Relations Mr. KALIGA Athanasia and the Head of Press Office. LITOU Maria. Present at the handover was the co-owner of the recycling company ¨PAMMETALIKI¨ Mr. HARDALIS Dimitris (who without his help, we would have achieved almost nothing and we thank him in particular) and the company’s Public Relations Manager Mrs. HARDALIS Eutychia.
Messrs. CHRISTODOULIS and KANELLIS conveyed to the hospital staff the doctrine of our EU, for offering to the society as a whole as well as supporting each of our fellow human beings in need, especially for health issues, reflecting at the same time the difficulties and circumstances of our days.
The General Director of the Hospital, Mr. EMMANOUILIDES Kon/nos, after explaining the work and the offer of the International Police Union, thanked the Board of Directors. of our Locality and Mr. HARDALIS Dimitris for the donation of the baby stroller, stressing that such a stroller
special type did not exist in their Hospital.
We sincerely thank the members, friends of the IRA and our colleagues for the essential and moral support throughout our project. Special mention and pride to the Paralympian Ms. TSAPATAKI Antonis, ambassador of our specific action and our athletes in the teenage section who went beyond their morals, gave the biggest fight for the collection of plastic caps.
