The entrances to the Seysses remand center (Haute-Garonne) are blocked, Wednesday, September 7, by the prison guards. They demand recruitment in order to be able to manage a prison with overcrowding and unsanitary living conditions.
Their job consisted above all in not letting the prisoners incarcerated in the prison of Seysses (Upper Garonne). This time, the supervisors of the penitentiary establishment, located south of Toulouse, decided not to let anyone in, Wednesday, September 7, since 6 am.
The inter-union Penitentiary Syndicate of Supervisor(e)s SSP, UFAPForce Ouvrière, takes advantage of the installation ceremony of the head of the establishment, in office for a year, to demand additional means
Out of 250 guards working in the prison, 87 are mobilized. According to the unions, 30 additional guards would be missing to properly manage the remand center which currently has 1,000 detainees for 692 places.
With three inmates per cell and all the missions assigned to them, it is not uncommon for prison staff to Seysses performed up to 90 hours of overtime per month.
On August 4, the administrative court of Toulouse gave formal notice to the State to urgently apply three measures to improve the conditions of detention.
Around 10 a.m., the demonstrators were finally dislodged by the gendarmes in the greatest calm. A meeting with regional management is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
