At the Niccolini Theater in Florence, Thursday 8 September at 4 pm, “Contemporary Living: reflections and indications on the state of things” will be staged. The 18 architectural firms that took part in the exhibition “Lonely Living. The architecture of the primary space “, created in 2002 as part of the VIII Architecture Biennale in Venice and revived in recent months in a contemporary key by Digital Refuge, the new exhibition space in via della Fornace 41. years have established themselves on the Italian and international architectural scene, 17 groups of new generation designers are added to the theater. Together they will give life to an updated reflection – and very current at the time of the pandemic – on “living alone”.
As in a sort of theatrical performance, each studio will be entrusted with the task of telling their point of view on the theme of the evening from a stage in the theater in front of the audience positioned in the stalls and in the gallery. At the same time, on the stage, the direction of Giancarlo Cauteruccio will mark the timing of the event through the projection of contents, videos and images relating to the theme of living selected by each architect according to their own vision and feelings.
The event, curated by Laura Andreini and Carlo Terpolilli, is organized by Rifugio Digitale and represents the final act of the exhibition “Lonely Living. The architecture of the primary space ”which, from 1 July until 8 September, offers a virtual tour of 18 building projects for minimal living, conceived twenty years ago by some of the leading architecture firms in Italy. Among these, Archea Associati, Bruno Fioretti Marquez, C + S Associati, Alberto Cecchetto, Alfonso Cendron, 5 + 1 Associated Architects. The architects had been asked to relate to the theme of minimal living by designing a space of about 16 square meters on a 1: 1 scale, built entirely of chipboard panels. And now, in the unusual context of an ancient theater, twenty years later, new generations of architects are returning to investigate one of the fundamental themes of metropolitan life, accentuated by the psychological isolation and loneliness imposed by the pandemic.
On the stage of Niccolini, the AMAA studios, Filoferro architetti, Eutropia architetti, Morana + Rao, Caret Studio, Supervoid, Campomarzio, Bodar (Francesco Messina), Lina Malfona, MDU Architetti, Carlana Mezzalira Pentimalli, It’s, Neostudio, Diverserighestudio, Demogo, AM3, OKS, MAP will talk about their idea of living (via Ricasoli 3, today at 4 pm, free admission, [email protected]).
