Lithuania confidently defeated the Bosnians and reached the round of 16
The Lithuanian national team confidently entered the round of 16 of the European Championship.
Pupils of Kazis Maksvytis in Cologne 87:70 (28:28, 28:14, 19:17, 12:11) defeated the basketball players of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Lithuania took the fourth place in group B and will meet the Spanish national team in the round of 16. The Bosnians were out of the playoffs after losing.
Marius Grigonis scored 16 points for our team, Arnas Butkevičius, I Brazdeikis and Joans Valančiūnas scored 13 each. The latter also rebounded 15 balls.
M.Grigonis was unstoppable in the first half, scoring 14 points throughout the half.
However, this did not help the Lithuanian national team to break away. At one point, they led by eight points, but in the last second of the quarter J.Nurkičius’ three-pointer tied the game at 28 points.
The Bosnians broke into a steady lead at the start of the second half, but the Lithuanians quickly regained the lead.
D. Sabonis’ free throws and I. Brazdeikis’ two-pointer in the 18th game increased the difference to double digits for the first time, 49:39. Later, D. Sabonis and R. Jokubaitis scored two more points each, extending the run to 9:0 and Lithuania leading 53:39.
At the end of the second quarter, Lithuania was ahead 56:42.
At the beginning of the third quarter, I. Brazdeikis’ three-pointer increased the difference to 20 points for the first time – 62:42. The Bosnians were up to 11 points after the spurt, but then A. Butkevičius hit two free throws, scored a three-pointer, and Lithuania led 75:59 before halftime.
The advantage of the Lithuanian national team was reduced to 12 points and the Bosnians had a chance to reduce the difference to single digits, but J. Roberson’s three-pointer was inaccurate.
Less than three minutes later, A. Butkevičius impressively put it over the opponent and Lithuania then led 81:65.
During the rest of the time, our team did not allow the opponents to create intrigue.
The Lithuanian national team won the battle for the balls 40:26 and hit 11 out of 26 three-pointers.
