Discover the Netherlands under water – Municipality of Amsterdam
On Sunday evening, September 11, the nature film Nederland Water will be shown on a big screen in Park Somerlust on Korte Ouderkerkerdijk. Discover the unique Dutch underwater nature in all its glory!
This unique film is fun for young and old and shows the rich, but unknown underwater nature of the Netherlands for the first time in all its glory. Never before comprehensive ecological and nature videographers spend time in and around the Dutch inland waters.
The film takes place almost entirely underwater with simultaneous inhabitants, the large loach of the river lamprey in the lead role. The eel also has a special role to play. As the narrator, actor Gijs Scholten van Aschat takes the viewers along in our special underwater world.
Water quality
One of the most important tasks of the Amstel, Gooi en Vecht Water Board is ensuring clean surface water, including in the waters of Amsterdam. Although due to an improved water quality on various, random animals in the water there is a deterioration of the water quality.
For example, the Amsterdam water remains by swirling up sludge, in particular by preserving water, to prevent the occurrence of aquatic plants and animals. Things are going better in quieter places in canals without shipping, such as the Oosterringvaart. There will be more aquatic plants and clear water. So there is still a lot of work to be done to keep the quality good everywhere!
