Thessaloniki back to dark times
Nothing more than a… progressive parenthesis was, as it seems, the mayorship of Boutaris, as with a mock procedure the renaming of a street from “Athanasiou Chrysochou” to “Alberto Nar” was canceled by the council of the 5th Municipal Community of Thessaloniki ● Insulting thousands of hunted resistance fighters is the decision.
A return to the darkest days of conservatism for Thessaloniki is the decision of the council of the 5th Municipal Community, after a simple vote by ballot, to enter the municipal council of Thessaloniki not to proceed with the renaming of “Strategou Athanasiou Chrysochou” street to “Albertou Nan” street . ». Without any discussion, seven joint councilors (three from the Zerva faction, two from the Orfanou faction, one from the Tahiaou faction and one from the Psomiadi faction) agreed to the proposal, while there were two abstentions and four negative votes (from the factions Thessaloniki Together, Laiki Sispiroza, Ecology Solidarity and The City Upside Down).
It is not enough that there was no discussion, that two out-of-court cases were not taken into account (one by citizen-members of SFEA 67-74 Alexandros Griba, Spyros Sakketas and Triantafyllos Mitafidis and the other by Stergios Kalaitzis-Kallidis, elected councilor of the 5th Municipal Community with the People’s Rally) who requested the postponement of the debate and the holding of at least a teleconference in order to submit arguments, moreover, twenty minutes before the start of the proceedings a 93-page (!!!) opinion of the Doctor of Economic History Evangelos Hekimoglou on the action was distributed electronically of Athanasios Chrysochou, which clears the general of any possibility of collaboration with the occupying troops, noting that he is driven only by anti-Communist sentiments and ideology, something… continuous for those years and the faction to which he belonged!
Now the case will of course go to the municipal council of the city, but the reaction of Sotiris Zarianopoulos, head of the People’s Rally in the Municipality of Thessaloniki, is already fierce, who in his statement to “Ef.Syn.” notes: “Today wrote another black page in the history of the Municipality of Thessaloniki. Its authors should not be proud. After the court decision (which rewrote history) the N.D. (Tachiaos, Zervas, Orphanos) in the 5th Community, voted to keep the name “Ath. Chrysochou” instead of “Alberto Nar” on a city street. This is how the thousands of resistance fighters hunted by Chrysochou, the Guardsman of the Germans in the occupation, are condemned, the thousands of our Jewish fellow citizens who were exterminated by the Nazi executioner Merten, whose defense was undertaken by Chrysochou in the historic trial, are condemned. The business of falsifying history continues. But it will fail.”
