“Not enough” – Rauch with a new vaccination announcement for Austria – corona virus
The fourth corona vaccination is now recommended in Austria for everyone over the age of 12.
Last week, the National Vaccination Committee (NIG) presented its new recommendation regarding the corona vaccination. In short: every Austrian aged 12 and over is recommended the fourth vaccination four to six months after the introduction of the third vaccination. Any infection that has gone through is irrelevant. In children from 5 to 11 years, the basic immunization should be completed with a delay at the start of school due to three vaccinations. No booster vaccination is currently recommended in this age group.

On Monday, Minister of Health Johannes Rauch (Greens) informed in a press conference together with the Austrian Medical Association about an information campaign about the fourth bite. Rauch began his remarks by stating that there was no acute situation in the healthcare system. This is the basis on which measures are prescribed, according to the politician.
Rauch advertised the vaccination, figures recently presented by GECKO clearly demonstrate the benefits: the risk of dying from Covid-19 falls by four fifths, the risk of being hospitalized increases and by half. Rauch announced an information campaign that would last until Christmas. This should be closer to people and not just serve the classic channels. Politicians cannot do everything alone, which is why the Chamber of Physicians and the Chamber of Pharmacists – these were represented by Presidents Johannes Steinhart (doctors) and Ulrike Mursch-Edlmayr (pharmacy) – were represented at the press conference.
“The pandemic is not over yet”
The campaign should draw attention to “that the pandemic is not over yet,” said the Minister of Health. Another point made by Rauch. The basic immunization consists of three vaccinations, now it is time for the booster vaccination. Many are of the wrong assumption that a one-time infection or vaccination would be sufficient to be optimally protected against Covid-19. “No, that’s not enough,” Rauch said firmly.

Both Johannes Steinhart and Ulrike Mursch-Edlmayr are convinced of the vaccination. Now it is a question of answering the most important questions of the population – when and with which vaccine should the refresher take place – in direct conversation.
