The phenomenon of antivax posters experienced a resurgence in Toulouse and its agglomeration this summer, where their presence in large numbers provoked many reactions. For a few days, it’s Ramonville that these displays place of consumption. And raise a lot of questions.
Several panels identified
The first weekend of September 2022 was that of many discoveries, in Ramonville.
At the Salvador Allende roundabout, on avenue d’Occitanie, on rue des Berges and on avenue Tolosane, the same attach dressed in blue and white, with a syringe, and the message “1 cardiovascular accident for 100 injections. The health of our children is worth more than experimental vaccines.”
The opposition challenges the mayor
The reactions were quick. including that of Sylvie Brot, president of the opposition group “Ramonville and you”. In a letter addressed to the mayor of the town, she demands to ” put everything in work so that these posters are removed as quickly as possible from the billboards of the town of Ramonville Saint-Agne”. A few days later, she tells Toulouse news having discovered a fifth poster, “in front of the cultural center”.
“Some have been covered by other expression posters, others are intact. I had no response from the Mayor, I saw him Monday evening at Sicoval and he did not come to me. But as it is about free posting on municipal signs, the question is who has the police power over it.
“The town hall treats and cleans”
Solicited by Toulouse news, Christophe Lubac, the mayor of the town, replies: “the antivax have been around for more than two years now, and they put words on free notice boards, here as elsewhere, There’s no nothing new“.
The first aedile continues: “it’s free display, and we treat it, we clean it. Antivax panels, you have them everywhere. On these panels, everyone posts what they want, and sometimes, these are insulting things, not legal. So the community take them off“.
A decree of the prefect, on August 27
On August 27, 2022, the prefect of Haute-Garonne, Etienne Guyot, announced that he had issued a prefectural order prohibiting this poster campaign, “after notifying the prosecutor at the Toulouse judicial court of the poster campaign underway in Haute-Garonne which contains false information on vaccination against covid-19”. This decree also authorized 72 hours, from the notification of the decree, “carried out on August 27, to proceed with the withdrawal of these posters”.
