Track and field successes in Geneva – Michelle Gröbli loosens the button in her head
Michelle Gröbli loosens the button in her head
The 400-meter runner from LC Regensdorf crowns her best season so far with silver and a new personal best. At the Swiss Championships for U20/U23, two other lower countries won medals.
After her appearance in the 400-meter final for the under-23s (U23), Michelle Gröbli spoke of having gotten the most out of it. In fact, the 21-year-old not only won the silver medal in her parade discipline, but also beat her previous record by 19 hundredths with a time of 53.70 seconds. “Gold was practically taken before the race,” the athlete from the LC Regensdorf clarified – alluding to the winner Julia Niederberger. The competitor from Nidwalden had already won a medal at the Swiss Elite Championships. Above all, however, being part of the Swiss 4 x 400 meter relay, which this year reached the finals at both the World Championships and the European Championships, proves Niederberger’s extra class. In view of this, second-placed Gröbli was right to be happy about her performance and stated with a laugh: “It’s always nice to run fast in a championship.”
