TOP 14. VIDEO SUMMARY. Despite the Tambwe rocket, Ntamack and Toulouse win against UBB
A meeting that kept all its promises! This Sunday evening, Union Bordeaux-Bègles received Stade Toulousain in a melting Chaban-Delmas stadium. A match between two champions of the championship, which was to start the season ideally against a direct competitor in the final stages. And from the start, we felt a crazy intensity, like the many impacts lost on both sides. Trailing 0-6 a quarter of an hour into the game, the locals decided to get their hands on the ball again: a strategy that paid off since a few moments later, Lamerat flattened into a corner for the first try from UBB. 8-6, then 15-6, after new UBB signing Madosh Tambwe scored his first try in the Bordeaux jersey, after a magnificent game at the foot of Buros. The former Bulls winger even tripled the bet on the half hour mark, taking advantage of an approximate kicking game from Antoine Dupont to pierce the Toulouse curtain. So that at halftime, Urios’ men led 22-9, offensive bonus in hand…
Stammering somewhat their rugby, Romain Ntamack and his men had to do much better in the second period to compete with their evening opponents. It was also the international opener who sounded the revolt several times, thanks to sharp ball grips. And as the pace began to drop, Mola’s flock restarted the game, led by former Bordelais Alexandre Roumat : indeed, and after a long sequence of Toulouse, the third line offered on a plateau the test to Matthis Lebel, after a pass jewel (22-16). We then say to ourselves that everything is possible again. Especially since in the process, Dupont and his family find themselves again within 22 meters of the UBB. A possession that was enhanced by opener Romain Ntamack, who scrambled for several tackles to score Toulouse’s second try, under the poles (22-23). In two minutes, Stade Toulousain had completely reversed the course of this meeting. A rather spectacular confrontation, which has continued to tense in the last 20 minutes. And while Jalibert and Jaminet each scored a penalty (25-26), we are witnessing one of the first turning points of this endgame : after a futile mistake by Aldegheri, Matthieu Jalibert had the opportunity to restore the advantage to his team, a few minutes from the final whistle. Unfortunately for him, his attempt fails. Bis repeated 5 minutes later: 40 meters in front of the posts, UBB opener missed the target again. Two failures that weighed in the balance…
After this new missed kick from Jalibert, the Toulouse, still under pressure, occupied as best they could in order to repel the Bordeaux assuats. But there, with less than two minutes left, the match seems to take on a new dimension : following a clash between Miquel and Placines, the latter logically received a red card following a deliberate blow to the face. A gesture which, beyond leaving Toulouse in numerical inferiority, offered Maxime Lucu the opportunity to score the winning penalty! At 45 meters in a corner, the international rushed, but saw the ball pass to the left of the posts. A final failure that doomed Bordeaux’s last hopes, who ended up bowing to much more realistic Toulouse. At the stage of the last season, Dupont and his teammates therefore started this championship perfectly, with a prestigious away victory. On their side, the Girondins will have to react next week, on the lawn of the reigning French champion, Montpellier.
