Opening of a new Emmaus store in Marseille, in the city center, to reach another clientele
Emmaüs is opening a new store in Marseille in the second arrondissement. This new store will be ephemeral and does not replace the four already existing ones, which are permanent. The goal is to reach other customers.
After Emmaüs en Ville rue Colbert (1uh), Emmaüs Joliette rue Plumier (2th), La Paus’Emmaüs boulevard Françoise Duparc (4th), and The Coming of Emmaüs boulevard Georges Clémenceau (4th) in the Cinq-Avenues district, the community of Emmaüs Pointe Rouge has chosen to open its new shop at the docks.
Clothing, decorative objects, or even furniture: the second hand is on the rise with the decline in the purchasing power of French households.
“The time for all new purchases is over, we are really in a moment, a context of climate change and we still have to think about all this and buy second-hand. It’s not always worth buying new and throwing away”says Kamel Fassatoui,
head of Emmaus Pointe Rouge.
On nearly 200m2, this ephemeral shop called “pop-up” will try a new strategy, reach the 20,000 people who work in this business district.
“It’s a new adventure, we arrive in a much bigger place, much more luxurious, and with potentially many more visitors.“, explains Jean-Claude, Companion of Emmaus.
Indeed, for several years, the Abbé Pierre Foundation has been opening pop-up shops in atypical places to get out of the shops and reach a wider audience.
And whether inside the parent company or outside, the principle remains the same.
“We have to get out of our walls because more and more of our customers can no longer go to Pointe-Rouge, for practical reasons, simply transport”, observes Kamel Fassatoui,
head of Emmaus Pointe Rouge.
The shop is made available to Emmaüs for six months by the company that manages the Village docks.
This is not a first, other cultural actions for example have already been temporarily hosted in the premises.
“This kind of provision makes it possible to shed more light on Emmaüs, in a different district, and to allow other types of population to come and discover what the companions are doing here, which is absolutely crazy”, details Cindy Chagouri , director of the “les docks village” site.
For the moment the little hands of the companions are finishing the preparation and the installation because the opening of the shop is this Monday, September 5th, it will be deactivated from now on.
