a demonstration announced against the new tariff schedule of Tisséo
This does not please everyone. On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, Tisseo announced the increase of its fee schedule. The first to react were the student representatives of the Jean-Jaurès University. But more than two months later, it is now the Young Communists of Haute-Garonne that react to price changes.
A 2% increase
As a reminder, the increases were made on the prices general public of single tickets and monthly and annual subscriptions. For this start of the school year, an additional 2% has been recorded on average on these prices. It is then necessary to count, 10 cents more on the single ticket Tisseo. It was 1.70 euro and then goes to 1.80 euro.
On the subscription side, prices have seen an increase of 2%. Note that ticket increases are applied every four years and are made in increments of ten cents, “to avoid units”.
An unpleasant rise
Faced with these novelties, the Young Communists of Haute-Garonne react and call for demonstration. Because for them, “this decision is a social aberration and ecological nonsense”. The arguments put forward by the collective applied to the precarious situation of some of the students. For them, the establishment of “income conditionality in the solidarity pricing policy” will have a major impact on young people.
Tisséo provides for the creation of an intermediate tranche for students and schoolchildren (11 to 25 years old) who are not scholarship recipients. These young people will experience an increase of 17% next year and 44% over the whole period. It’s huge: the latter who until today paid 10.80 euros per month would pay 18.70 euros at the end of the period. In addition, for those who had the possibility of taking out an annual subscription, it loses its advantage since it only includes one free month instead of two.
They also question the evolution of these prices according to stock market criteria.
The most precarious should not be used to fill the shortfalls of the Toulouse transport authority. We see in these measures a terrible negligence on the part of the Tisséo union committee which unanimously adopted this serious decision for the purchasing power of young people in the metropolis”.
Contradictions evoked on the side of the metropolis
Solicited by The Independent OpinionSacha Briand, vice-president of Toulouse Métropole, wished to respond to these observations claimed by the Young Communists of Haute-Garonne. In particular, he mentions contradictions in the discourse of the collective:
I note contradictions since they evoke the fact that the most precarious should not be used to fill the shortfalls of Tisséo. Or, the deliberation that was adopted retained the situation for all those who are in the least favored situations. As for the solidarity pricing for those under 26 where the criterion which is integrated is the stock market criterion. All those who are, therefore, are supposed to be in somewhat fragile situations. They don’t see their situation changed.”
The elected official also adds that in this age group of under 26, “we have two thirds of users who do not see their situation change”. He also insists that the charges are directed towards Toulouse Metropolis, while “it is a deliberation which was the subject of a consensus with all the communities”. This takes into account Sicoval, Muretain and Toulouse Metropolis.
An increase “below inflation”
The chosen one of Toulouse Metropolis also specifies that the tariff evolution is “below inflation, we are at less than 2% overall in the face of much higher inflation. This shows that we are making very significant efforts despite the increase in the cost from production”.
Despite everything and faced with this increase, the Young Communists of Haute-Garonne urging to demonstrate. A petition was launched a few weeks ago. This Monday, September 5, the meeting is given at 6 p.m. at the Jean-Jaurès metro station. The collective then wishes the return of the price to 10 euros for all young people under 26 years of age.
