Ligue 1: OM, OL, PSG … what to remember from the 6th day
OM, OL and PSG chained a new victory respectively against Auxerre (0-2), Angers (5-0) and Nantes (0-3), while Lille overthrew, this Sunday, Montpellier (1 -3) and that Monaco revived in Nice. Here is what to remember from the 6th day of Ligue 1.
Auxerre-Marseille 0-2
We will have to reckon with Marseille this season. The Olympian club signed another success on Saturday at Auxerre (0-2), even temporarily taking the lead in the standings (16 points) pending the meeting with PSG. It may be anecdotal, but it says a lot about the ability of the Marseillais to once again play the leading roles despite the sudden departure of Jorge Sampaoli. In Burgundy, they again demonstrated great defensive solidity and offensive efficiency to overcome the promoted Auxerre. Two ingredients that Igor Tudor’s men will need throughout the season to stay in the lead wagon. But also hopes to do well in the Champions League. And the confrontation against Tottenham, this Wednesday, should deliver indications on the true level of this OM.
Lyon-Angers 5-0
Four in a row for Lyon. OL chained a fourth consecutive victory, this Saturday, in an attacking festival when Angers came (5-0). With this clear and flawless success, Peter Bosz’s men have confirmed their very good start to the championship and assert themselves as serious outsiders after a complicated season. With 13 points on the clock, in five games, the Rhone club has made its best start since the 2012-2013 season at the end of which it finished in 3e step of the podium. And the Gones could remember PSG and OM (16 points) at the top of the standings in the event of another success, Wednesday, in Lorient (late match of the 2e day) before two clashes in Monaco and against Paris.
Nantes-PSG 0-3
Paris has overcome the trap. A little over a month after its big victory in the Champions Trophy (4-0), the capital club was eagerly awaited by FC Nantes at La Beaujoire, where it lost last season (3- 1). And the Parisians, even if they did not deliver the same copy as in Israel, left with a new success (0-3), regaining their place at the top of the classification thanks to a better goal difference (+20 against +10 for OM). For this trip, Christophe Galtier made several changes to his starting lineup, including Neymar on the bench at kick-off. If his team was a little jostled at the start of the game, they mastered the game after Kylian Mbappé’s opener (18e), author of a double, and the red card of Nantes Fabio (24e). It is now in the Champions League, against Juventus, this Wednesday, that PSG is expected.
Montpellier-Lille 1-3
Lille recovered. Beaten in the middle of the week by Nice (1-2), Losc overthrew, this Sunday, Montpellier in the Hérault (1-3). Led after 20 minutes of play, on a goal from Elye Wahi, the northern club returned to equality shortly before the break thanks to Jonathan David (40e). And the meeting tipped over in stoppage time in the first period with the expulsion of Valère Germain (45e+3). In numerical superiority, the northern club made the difference after returning from the locker room with Angel Gomes (57e) and at the end of the match thanks once again to Jonathan David (90e+5). This 3e success of the season allowed Paulo Fonseca’s men to pass their opponent of the day in the standings.
Reims-Lens 1-1
Braked lens. The Sang and or have failed to keep up with the infernal pace of PSG and OM and let the leaders slip away after their draw in Reims (1-1). The Lensois (3rd, 14 points) found themselves two lengths behind the Parisians and the Marseillais, just ahead of Lyon (4th, 13 pts), who had all three won on Saturday. Racing Club de Lens still had the energy to equalize in numerical inferiority, in a duel of scorers.
Brest-Strasbourg 1-1
Strasbourg still does not arrive there. No success in six games (4 draws, 2 losses) for the Alsatians who come back with a point from Brest (1-1). Quickly reduced to ten after the expulsion of Prcic on the 31steJulian Stéphan’s men equalized late in the game.
Ajaccio-Lorient 0-1
Lorient carried out a good operation by winning at Ajaccio (0-1). The Merlus are in fifth place while the Corsicans are last with only one point. With this third victory in five games, the Bretons are maintaining a good rhythm before the reception of Lyon for the late match of the 2nd day of Ligue 1, which will be played on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
Clermont-Toulouse 2-0
Third defeat in a row for Toulouse. The TFC lost to Clermont after achievements from Gonalons (48th) and Cham (90th + 6). While the Haut-garonnais, promoted, were delighted at the start of the championship, they seemed to have suffered the blow for a few games.
Troyes-Rennes: 1-1
Troyes and Rennes left with a score of parity (1-1) at the end of a meeting signaled by the discomfort of an assistant referee just before kick-off. While they had opened the scoring by Ugbo (14e), the surprising Trojans then finished at 10 from the 26e minute of play (expulsion of Salmier). The Rennais managed to equalize by Santamaria (48e) but failed to come back with the three points of victory.
Nice-Monaco 0-1
Monaco won in Nice in a closed derby this Sunday evening, thanks to its summer rookie Breel Embolo (1-0) and is relaunching almost a month after its last victory in the league.
