European taxis plan action in Brussels on September 8
Elite Taxi Belgium, an association that represents the interests of the sector, wants to organize a ‘historic’ event in Brussels on 8 September, together with its European counterparts. “We want clarity about the UberFiles.”
“We’ve had enough of the inscrutability that came out so clearly from the UberFiles,” Younes Zerrad of Elite Taxi Belgium told BRUZZ. “It is time to create clarity. That is why we want to protest in the streets of Brussels on 8 September.”
At ten o’clock taxis from all over Europe want to meet at the Albert II-laan near the North Station. “We expect at least 1,500 taxis from Belgium, but also France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Greece – you name it. All of Europe will be represented.”
European Commission of Inquiry
The taxis want to drive in the direction of the Kleine Ring via the tunnels, where a Belgian delegation will hold at the cabinet of Prime Minister Rudi Vervoort (PS). “We have a lot of questions for Mr Vervoort about the new taxi plan,” it sounds.
Immediately afterwards, the colony wants to move towards Belliardstraat to end on Schumanplein, near the offices of the European Commission. “An international delegation will demand a meeting with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen,” Zerrad said.
“The language is to finally move clearly politically about the UberFiles. All parties must be held accountable. We demand a European Commission of Inquiry to create national clarity.”
The police have not yet given the green light for the demonstration.
