Toulouse: Rue Dominique Baudis has been named, on Place du Capitole
Eight years after the death of the former mayor of Toulouse, Dominique Baudis, a street now bears his name, on the Place du Capitole. It was baptized by the mayor of Toulouse Jean-Luc Moudenc, in the presence of the Baudis family.
The emotion was palpable, this Saturday, September 3 at the end of the morning, place du Capitole. In the presence of his wife Ysabel, his children Pierre, Benjamin and Florence and his grandchildren, rue Dominique Baudis was taken care of. This is the street that runs along the arcades, on the Place du Capitole.
The street sign was unveiled by Mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc, on the rue des Lois side, to the applause of many anonymous Toulouse residents who came to pay tribute to their mayor, but also former elected officials and current elected officials.
Pendant Mayor 18 years old, between 1983 and 2001
Dominique Baudis was mayor between 1983 and 2001, i.e. for 18 years, the longest period of responsibility for a mayor of Toulouse. He died in 2014. Julie Escudier, mayor of the district recalled “his straight gaze, which attracted people, a sign of will but also of hidden tenderness”, his “open smile”.
His wife Ysabel, very moved, thanked the elected officials for having named a street in the name of her husband on the Place du Capitole, where he worked for 18 years. “In 1983 when he was elected, he said to me, ‘Men pass away, cities remain.’ Thank you for giving him a spark of eternity with this gesture”.

Mayor Jean-Luc Moudenc recalled that a bust of Dominique Baudis was enthroned in the Cour Henri IV, “where there are only two busts, that of the best of our kings, and that of the best of our mayors”, to applause.
Toulouse-Blagnac airport has also been named after Dominique Baudis since 2019. “We want to complete this tribute with a street in an emblematic place in Toulouse, Place du Capitole. Because Toulouse is Baudis, and Baudis is Toulouse”.

Jean-Luc Moudenc recalled that during his 18 years as mayor, Dominique Baudis accomplished a number of achievements. “The one he was most proud of was the metro. It was a hard fight, it took a lot of will, a touch of skill, to achieve it. Today, all Toulouse residents benefit from it, with 450,000 trips per day”.
The current mayor concluded his tribute with a vibrant “Thank you Dominique! was greeted with loud applause.
