Near the Nakache swimming pool, this Friday, September 2, 2022a Toulousethe agents of the green spaces and the roads include several tanks with the water of the basins.
In this period of drought, the municipality wanted to use this water to water the vegetation, but also to clean the roads. the SDIS 31 Should also recover several m3.
The water is no longer chlorinated
Since Sunday, August 28, 2022, the water is no longer treated in the swimming pool. Thus, these 6,000 meters3 water, have taken a green turn. But they can still be used for green spaces and roads. “It takes about four days for the water to be no longer chlorinated”, underline the agents of the town hall.
Regarding street cleaning, water must be used quickly: “If you wait too long, it can become too polluting for the road. In this period of high heat, the water turns even faster. But when it only concerns the vegetation, there is no problem”, affirms the vice-president of Toulouse Métropole in charge of Ecology, Francois Chollet.
Water the trees first
The municipality has decided to green the city. Many trees suffered from the high heat and drought. According to the community, it affects young trees first. They were also the first watered.
Francois Chollet : “We thought first and foremost of this young vegetation. He risks having losses because of this lack of water. Today, the priority is nature and the environment. »
Several rotations for vehicles
After filling the tanks, the agents of the town hall went to town to clean the roads or water the vegetation. Thus, these do several round trips. “The sweeper, for example, makes four rotations. The washer, she did two before returning, ”note city officials.
However, not every vehicle contains the same amount of water. “The washer can wear up to 4,000 liters of water and the 800 sweeper. For roads, we do not clean all the streets of the city, we try to optimize. We prioritize busy or festive streets such as Place Saint-Pierre or Rue Gabriel-Péri,” they confirm.
More water by next week
Next weekend, the municipal teams could be done with the Nakache basin. “If everything works as planned, there will be no more water at the end of next week”, specifies Francois Chollet.
As an attendant, firefighters also had to come and help themselves to water to fill the tanks of their vehicles.
