A paddle steamer with around a hundred passengers on board suffered a technical breakdown on Lake Geneva on Saturday. The ship “Rhône” could not continue due to a blocked hydraulic pump.
The breakdown occurred around 4 p.m., so that the steamship had to stop off the coast of Corsier, as the shipping company CGN announced. The place is about eight kilometers from Geneva. The passengers were disembarked and taken to Geneva by another ship, where they arrived about an hour and a half later.
According to the information, the “Rhône” will initially remain in Geneva. Then the ship should be taken to a shipyard in Ouchy for repairs. According to CGN, the 95-year-old ship was renovated for almost three years and has only been back on the lake since this year.
The 68 meter long paddle steamer from the Belle Epoque was built in 1927 and holds around 600 passengers. The ship mainly travels between Geneva and Lausanne.
