Candidate managers for transition houses wanted | Brussels
BrusselsThe FPS Justice is looking for candidate managers for the transition houses with Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open VLD) who wants to guide detainees at the end of their sentence in their return to society. The aim is to ensure a location between Flanders and Wallonia, preferably with a house in Brussels.
Transition houses are smaller institutions. There is room for twelve to seventeen inmates, who can spend the last six months of their sentence. By intensively guiding them and preparing them for their return – living independently, working, etc. – the risk of recidivism can also be reduced.
Looking for external partners
definitively, there is only a transition house for 15 people in Mechelen. At the beginning of next year there will be another one in Ghent for 16 people. The intention is to start other goals to open future houses and thus to open the total places and thus to open the total places to the total of 100. The intention is to watch over an intended spread of Flanders, including preferably a house in Brussels. The Ministry of Justice relies on external partners for its operation. Those can get a grant.
No detention houses
The transition house is preferably located in an urban area. This makes use of the accessibility to aid and services and it is a strong factor in probation. The transition houses differ from the detention houses. These are also small-scale institutions, but with a capacity of 20 to 60 detainees. They offer shelter to persons with a maximum of 3 years and a low security risk. In addition, detainees receive tailor-made guidance from day one to prepare for their reintegration into society as well as possible and to increase the risk of recidivism.
