A Nice team in reconstruction
Thanks to a crazy last game in Reims, Nice snatched a European place last May. The Riviera club, owned by billionaire Ratcliffe, has been doing things one by one since the arrival of the British and is living the Champions League in 2 years. Following the departure of Christophe Galtier from Paris Saint-Germain, the leaders recalled a former member of the house, Lucien Favre. The Swiss technician had done an excellent job during his first visit to the Côte d’Azur. The former Dortmund coach, on the other hand, must not have appreciated the start of his proteges. Indeed, the GYM have won only one game since the start of the championship and suffered to qualify for the Conference League group stage against Maccabi Tel Aviv. Les Aiglons started their season with two draws against Toulouse and Strasbourg (1-1). Then, Nice was beaten by Marseille (0-3) and more surprisingly by Clermont (1-0). On Wednesday, Favre’s men took advantage of two penalties in Lille to clinch 3 precious points (1-2).
Monaco on alternating current
For its part, Monaco once again showed its difficulties at the start of the season. Very successful in the final straights, the club from the Principality regularly experiences sluggish starts. This is again the case since ASM failed to qualify for the Champions League group stage and are only in 16e position of the L1, just behind… Nice. Monaco had however won its match of the 1re day in Strasbourg (1-2) but since experienced several disappointments against Rennes (1-1) and Lens (1-4). Clément’s men delivered a very good performance at the Parc des Princes against PSG last Sunday (1-1). But this performance remained without a future since the ASM was surprised in the middle of the week by Troyes (2-4) at Louis II, in a meeting but possibly with the opening of the score of Maripan. The exclusion of the Chilean a few minutes later completely changed the course of the match for the Monegasques, who have not been varnished by arbitration since the start of the season.
Offensive quality on each side
This summer, the Nice club recorded the arrivals of Kasper Schmeichel, Aaron Ramsey, Mattia Viti, Romanian Ilie or Nicolas Pépé. In the last hours of the transfer window, the club notably made an exchange with Rennes between Gouiri, who clearly showed that he no longer wanted to play with Nice and Laborde in bickering with Génésio. The Gym therefore reconstituted the prolific attack of the MHSC with the duo Laborde – Delort who had panicked the defenses of Ligue 1 for several months. For this match, Lemina will still be suspended. Opposite, the Principality club will be deprived of injured Volland and Boadu, while Maripan is suspended. On the other hand, rookies Minamino and Embolo and the excellent international Wissam Ben Yedder are available. He has not yet found the net this season in Ll (1 goal in the C1 play-off) and he is expected at the turn against a team against whom he has already scored 12 times in his career. A record in the history of the elite.
Probable line-ups for Nice – Monaco:
Pleasant: Schmeichel – Viti, Todibo, Dante – Atal, Thuram, Beka Beka, Ramsey, Bard – Pépé (or Laborde), Delort.
monaco : Nübel – Vanderson, Disasi, Badiashile, Caio Henrique – Diatta, Fofana, Camara, Golovin – Embolo, Ben Yedder.
A match on goal in this derby on the Côte d’Azur?
These two teams have so far not given satisfaction in terms of results. Often capable of the best as well as the worst, they have on the other hand good offensive qualities on each side. In particular, this Monaco team which has always scored this season. Problem, the players of the Rock have not produced any clean sheets for the moment and this could still be the case on Sunday evening in a meeting which should undoubtedly be animated. Monaco’s first 7 games this season have resulted in goals scored by both sides. Delort (2 goals in 5 L1 games), who finds pleasure in his friend Laborde, could celebrate with a goal.
