Summer Coding Day in Luxembourg“I am a mother who struggles to prevent children from being too close to screens”
ESCH/BELVAL – At the end of a fun day, older children learned the tricks of coding this Thursday in Esch-Belval.
The holidays are not yet over in the Grand Duchy, and some children and teenagers are still taking advantage of the days before the official start of the school year to repeat their ranges in terms of… computer coding! A “Summer Coding Day” was organized this Thursday in Esch-Belval for the occasion. “Our goal is to make young people want to get into digital creation,” says Marie-Paule Freiheisen, president of the Code Club Luxembourg association.
“We are expecting around fifty people for this somewhat special day where we have also invited parents. With a desire thanks to our team of 13 coaches: to explain to them how we can pass on IT in a fun way”.
An educational and fun approach
Divided into several groups where French rubs shoulders with English and Luxembourgish, young and old alike plunge very quickly into the world of coding. From the height of their 10 years, Charlotte and Elena are hyper motivated. “We love learning new things,” they tell us. “We don’t really know what we are going to do, between art and coding, but we are interested, because in our school in Kirchberg, it is already possible to take courses to create applications”.
Originally from Esch-sur-Alzette, Kadija Perreira did not hesitate to come to “Summer Coding Day” with her two daughters, aged 8 and 12. “I am a mother who fights, as she can, to prevent the children from being too close to the screens”, she confides to us. “The educational and fun approach of this day is very interesting so that I can give new concrete explanations to my daughters. Instead of banning them (the computers), I tell myself that it’s better to put them face to face with the subject. They are completely receptive and they are eager to learn”.
