MITO classical music festival turns on the light in Milan and Turin
The international MITO festival, dedicated to classical music, brings together Turin and Milan through a grandiose program: 116 prestigious and low-cost concerts, in 21 days during the month of September.
Bach, Debussy, Beethoven… The works of the greatest prodigies of classical music are brought together for a month. Some 116 concerts with renowned musicians and singers are expected from September 5 to 25 between Milan and Turin on the occasion of the 16th edition of the MiTo International Classical Music Festival. After two years of restrictions due to the health crisis, the program aims to be grandiose. Not least because he was recently recognized by the Italian Parliament as “Festival of absolute international prestige” and was thus granted a grant of one million euros for its organization.
The common thread of this year, ” Lucy “ (lights), aims to bring clarity in this dark time through music. The theme will be found in all the concert programs, laid out in a specific way to allow the public a new listening experience, linked to music and light.
The experience thus aims to reveal real synesthesias between sounds and images, sometimes emerging from the indications written by the composer in the score, or reflected from reflections imagined by listening to the music. An edition which also intends to “illuminate” the great pages of the history of music through new combinations, original interpretations and new interpretations.
The MiTO 2022 Festival kicks off with two opening nights: Monday September 5 at the Giovanni Agnelli Auditorium in Turin and the following day at Teatro La Scala in Milan. This first concert entitled “imaginary lights”, interpreted by the London Philharmonia Orchestra and conducted by Jhon Axelrod, perfectly announces the rest of the festival, during which other prestigious formations will perform on Italian stages. To cite the most anticipated, we will find in particular the National Rai Symphony Orchestra conducted by Robert Trevino or the orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia with its conductor and soprano Barbara Hannigan but also, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the independence of Brazil, the Neojiba orchestrated by Ricardo Castro. Finally, Mozart’s compositions will resonate in the conservatories of the host cities. This closing entitled “crystals” will take place on Saturday September 24 in Turin and the following day in Milan.
An inclusive festival to welcome all audiences
The 16th edition remains faithful to the specified character of the Festival, namely, to combine great art and accessibility. One of the objectives of the MITO Festival is indeed to offer moments of shared listening to masterpieces of our cultural heritage, and to promote it. The prices of the concerts are therefore contained: those in the evening range from 10 to 25 euros (but spectators born after 2008 pay 5 euros). The concerts taking place in the afternoon are offered at 5 euros and some are free.
