Civil Service: the national festival in Rome.
The National Conference of Civil Service Bodies, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the recognition in Italy of conscientious objection, has announced the national civil service festivalscheduled in Rome on 9-10 September in the location of the Giardino Verano.
“50 years ago conscientious objection to military service was recognized in Italy as a founding act of the Republican Institute of Civil Service. A long journey that began in the Republican age with Pietro Pinna, starting with his nonviolent choice in 1948, who – recalled by Cnesc – gave way to the fight for the legal recognition of conscientious objection culminating in law 772 of 1972 which established the substitute civil service “.
They will know two days of celebration, do the promoters, which will see the young people, the operators of the institutions as protagonists Civil servicethe volunteer operators in service, together with personalities from culture, entertainment and the “objectors” and “civilians” of the last fifty years.
The opening of the event, Friday 9 September from 6 pm, will be entrusted to the former football player of the national team and of Rome, conscientious objector and new mayor of Verona, Damiano Tommasi, together with the former mayor of Messina, the pacifist Renato Accorinti.
“The Festival 50 years of objection for peace – declares the president of the CNESC Laura Milani – will be one of the culminating moments of this journey with which, starting from the roots of conscientious objection, we want to reaffirm and broaden our commitment to a Civil service truly and voluntary, capable of building a just peace and responding to the challenges facing the younger generations ”.
