Wednesday August 31, 2022 marks the end meteorological summer. Started on 1uh June and left on very high bases with a red alert heat wave historic in Haute-Garonne, from June 16, this summer 2022 will have remained excessively hot over all three months.
Without respite for the most fragile, this summer will mark the collective memories in the Pink City. In terms of figures, it will remain an extraordinary summer for our time.
Second hottest summer on record
Long ranked as the hottest summer in history and consistent with the benchmark in terms of heat waves, 2003 almost fell by the wayside in 2022. It was decided… at 0.1°C in Toulouse.
“Throughout the summer as a whole, the average maximum temperature is at 31.5°C in Toulouse. In 2003, it was 31.6°C” , reveals Pascal Boureauformer forecaster for Meteo France.
With regard to the average minimum temperatures, the difference is only slightly greater. ” On an EU 18.6°C this summer, and there had been 19°C in 2003. “
24 days above 35°C
Another striking data: the number of days when the maximum temperature exceeded 35°C, still in the Pink City. Since 1uh June 2022, Météo France reflected on it “ 24, while the average is 11 days useful “. Regarding days over 30°C, Toulouse recorded 57″. It’s still enormous, it’s two days out of three…”, analyzes Pascal Boureau.
On the precipitation scale, the same observation. The figures are far, very far from habits. 37 mm in June, 2.5 mm in July, 20 mm in August: the 59.5 mm recorded over the whole of the summer is twice less than the 130 mm which falls, on average, normally on the fourth city of France.
A summer that went crescendo
On July 9, as it began its second month, the meteorological summer of 2022 averaged 29.2°C for maximums. Only 2003 and 1976 were ahead of him. Two months later, it grabbed a place to become the second hottest summer since the records, in Toulouse. ” It went crescendo“, comments Pascal Boureau.
“In June, we had an average of 29°C for maximum temperatures in Toulouse. In July, 32.5°C, and in August, 33°C. It is also exactly the same average as in Athens , for the month of August. But over there, it’s usual. Here, normally, we have an average of 28.5°C that month…”
40.1°C in Toulouse Francazal
Following a hot summer, August was also the second highest temperature month. Only 2003 shows higher data, with 34°C.
Finally, the hottest day was recorded on August 12, 2022, “ with 40.1°C in Toulouse Francazal and even 40.4°C a Montesquieu Lauragais”.
