Near Toulouse: an operation saves nearly 600 kg of fish in a dry lake

A Saint-Orens-de-Gamevillethe level of lake of chanterelles is low. Very low. The body of water has suffered this summer periods of high heat waves and drought which affects the whole region. “There is still a large pocket of water. Last Thursday, a large part of the lake was dry”, explains the Environment, Biodiversity and Major Risk Prevention department of the town hall, photos (above and below) in support.
As a result, the town hall of Saint-Orens-de-Gameville has launched a rescue operation fish refugees in the water pocket still present in this one hectare lake. “We asked for the intervention of volunteers”, we continue within the municipal service.
Nearly 600 kg of fish
The operation took place on the weekend of August 27 and 28, 2022. According to the municipality, it allowed to move nearly 600 kg of carp, tench, black bass and roach.
The fish have been moved in another body of water.
90% of livestock preserved
“We would like to warmly thank the volunteers who mobilized for their action and their investment. Thanks to them, 90% of the lake’s livestock has been preserved “, indicates the town hall in a press release.
