“They wasted their chance” according to an advocate for asylum seekers
What future for young migrants recently deported to Toulouse? About fifty of them spent a fourth night outside on the Jules Guesde alleys. They are massed on the grass next to the Palais de Justice. France Bleu Occitanie has been telling you about it since Friday August 26, when they were expelled from a former retirement home in the Cépière district. No relocation is planned at this time.. Why ? Explanations.
“When someone reaches out to you, we don’t insult them.”— Pierre-Alain Sarda, member of a collective defending asylum seekers
A lack of respect for the mayor, Jean-Luc Moudenc?
Pierre-Alain Sarda, member of the collective “Help for the reception of asylum seekers and street people in Toulouse”“, knows this file very well. He has been working for more than fifteen years for people in precariousness. For him, young migrants have behaved inadmissibly towards the town hall of Toulouse. They have “spoiled their luck” get out of it, he says.
“They had a chance, they didn’t take it at all. They were sheltered, they had professional educators. They had meals provided, hygiene products. They had everything they needed and they had been sheltered for more than two years. Someone who reaches out to you, we do not insult him, we do not call him a racist. It was not a squat, it was a shelter provided by the town hall. The mayor gave them the means to be safe and to continue their fight. We respect the people who accompany us in life.”
“Jean-Luc Moudenc reached out to them when he had no obligation to do so since the French state does not recognize unaccompanied foreign minors.” —Pierre-Alain Sarda
The Departmental Council of Haute-Garonne took care of minors
After the eviction, the Departmental Council took care of isolated young people whose minority (under 18) has been verified by the public prosecutor. The Prefecture of Haute-Garonne explains what the State services have implemented: “About thirty agents from the services of the prefecture, the departmental council and Toulouse Métropole were present on the day of this evacuation. They somehow relocated their offices that day, with tables, chairs and computers, in order to to be able to receive each young person in an individual interview in situ. Three of them accepted, and presented the documents proving their minority.”
This weekend, 7 other young minors presented themselves to the Departmental Council and were thus taken care of.there was thus support for all minors who reported“, specifies the prefecture. A total of 10 isolated young people were taken care of and “minors who have not reported themselves are invited to do so” specifies the prefecture.
