FedCom acquires Euroleague and Eurocup rights for France and Monaco
After a fanfare at the end of the season on the channel L’Equipe, which followed the play-offs of Monaco, on the verge of being invited to the Final Four (defeat in match 5 of the quarter-finals on the ground of Olympiakos) , the Euroleague has found a new broadcaster. This is precisely linked to the Monegasque club, since it is its major sponsor, which also became its majority shareholder in January 2022, FedCom.
The society of Aleksej Fedoriscev
historical partner of ASM football (which it left in 2021), switched to basketball in 2019 by appearing on the jersey of the Roca Team, also became a sponsor of the Euroleague, signed, according to our information, a deal granting it the rights to the queen competition, the Euroleague, as well as those of its little sister, the Eurocoupe, won by Monaco in 2021, for French and Monegasque territories.
A digital platform for dissemination
If the contours of the partnership – duration, amount of rights – have not filtered for the time being, the new holders would intend to set up a digital platform as a privileged medium for distribution. Each match of Monaco and Asvel, the two representatives of the Betclic Elite in the Euroleague, would benefit, at least at home, from a substantial system in terms of production, with pre- and post-match sets, as well as two commentators appear physically at each meeting.
FedCom will work with IMG, an American giant in marketing, production and sales of rights, associated with the Euroleague since 2015, for the practical implementation of its project, for which it is not known at this time whether it will also find a parallel channel on more traditional TV channels, on Monaco Info in particular, broadcaster in the Principality during the broadcast season.
After the Euroleague, the LNB?
But FedCom and its president Aleksej Fedoriscev (also boss of the Principality club), who hope to win a license as a permanent member of the Euroleague as soon as possible, do not seem to want to stop there. Several concordant sources claim that an offer would also have been made for the acquisition of the rights to the French Championship. A case that is still pending. Satisfied with its association with beIN Sports, its premium broadcaster since last December, the LNB is also discussing an extension with the channel – while hoping, no doubt, to continue its collaboration with Sport in France, and France Télévisions for certain posters at the level regional.
Shipping and cereals multinational created in 1995 in Monaco. Since January 27, 2022, it has held 46.4% of the shareholding of AS Monaco basketball, alongside the Monegasque government (33.3%) and Sergey Dyadechko (10%), now vice-president.
