Basket. 5 things to know before the tantalizing Caen-Rouen

After one clear victory against Chartres (79-57), during their first preparation match, the players of the Caen Basket Calvados will be able to gauge themselves against a formation that descends from Pro B, Rouen. Before this match open to the public, Tuesday August 30, 2022 at the Palais des Sports in Caen (6:30 p.m.), here are several things to remember about a Calvados team under construction, but which can already rely on a few certainties .
1. A beefy CBC on the rebound
The CBC have only played one game so far, admittedly. Friendly moreover. But the intensity displayed from the start and throughout the game against Chartres, says a lot about the sporting potential of this 2022-2023 Caen Basket Calvados team. Very largely dominant in the rebound last season with Caen, Moïse Diamé will be able to count on rebounders of the same caliber this season in the Normandy racket. Mounir Bernaoui and Demond Watt had to do well in this exercise, without forgetting the leaps Joël Awich and Parfait Njiba.
2. Offensive, it will come from everywhere
“The star is the team,” confided recently the new CBC coach, Stéphane Eberlin. After the Chartres match, it’s obvious. The scoring will probably be very well distributed this season. Five players with 8 points and more in the first friendly match, with a Moïse Diamé at 5 points (against 9.8 pts on average last season) and a Bryson Pope at 2 units (against 8 in 2021-2022)… For the opposing defences, the danger will come from almost everywhere.
Still a lot of work
3. Better balanced at 3 points
The CBC has often been criticized for being inconsistent at long range in recent years. Again, the 2022-2023 team seems well equipped in this area. In addition to Carl Ona Embo who set the Palais des Sports on fire in the spring during the playoffs, with award-winning shots, Florian Thibedore, Lucas Veraghe and Parfait Njiba all scored three 3-pointers against Chartres. Without forgetting Bryson Pope who can also represent a danger from afar. He remains on seasons with 30.6%, 45.1% and 40.9% success in this exercise.
4. The work that remains to be done
To be ready for the resumption, the players must digest the heavy athletic workload they have been taking since the resumption of training on August 8th. “The 4th quarter against Chartres was not good at all, concedes Stéphane Eberlin. But that’s normal. We are currently in full workload and it is therefore harder to finish the match. Not to mention the big work we have to do at the basket level. “Remains that for a first against Chartres, the Norman coach finds the performance of his players” more than positive. »
5. Everyone is involved
Both in training and in matches, each player seems to feel involved in the project. And everyone has all the more the opportunity to be that in a friendly match, the Caen staff intends to rotate the workforce. “We are on a philosophy, on the first two or three friendly matches, to rotate a lot, not to shoot any of the players, that everyone plays about twenty minutes to find their marks. ”
