Toulouse: WateRugby is making a comeback on September 8
650 players, 30 legends of the oval ball and a floating field. The 4th edition of WateRugby is back and it’s an opportunity for Toulouse residents to see several celebrities and amateur teams playing rugby on the banks of the Garonne.
Christian Califano, Vincent Clerc, Delon Armitage… The list is long. Every year, in the center of Toulouse, WateRugby brings together several big names. “Full of rugby legends will be there to share an exceptional moment with all lovers of the party and the oval ball”, proudly admit the event’s communication teams.
On the occasion of this festival, the green and fresh lawns on which the athletes throw themselves to mark the tests are restored by the water of the Garonne. A floating barge measuring 40×35 meters will be installed on the quays of La Daurade so that Toulouse residents can attend the meetings free of charge.
Regarding the rules of WaterRugby, it’s very simple. “You literally have to dive to score,” explain the teams in charge of the event. No keys, no line, just jump with the ball in the Garonne to score the test.
Honor to students
And it’s not just the stars who will take the plunge. This year, the fourth edition of WateRugby, in partnership with Eden Park, will also be under the sign of youth. “We decided to start the party a day earlier by organizing a tournament for students on Thursday, September 8,” says the organization. In addition to players and former internationals, 16 teams will compete to defend the colors of their schools.
