the tournament is back and gaining momentum
On Sunday August 28, the Toulouse International tennis tournament begins. A professional tournament, organized by the Stade Toulousain Tennis Club, which welcomes world-class players this year. For the first time, this competition has joined the closed club of the biggest tournaments in the world.
The Toulouse Tennis Open begins on Sunday August 28 at Les Sept Deniers. This year the tournament has joined the Challenger 80 category, the antechamber of the ATP Tour and Grand Slam tournaments.
Clearly, this men’s competition is reserved for players ranked between 100th and 250th in the world. There are only 32 such tournaments in the world. The CHALLENGER ATP 80 tournament gives the winner 80 ATP points which allows you to position yourself in the world ranking of the same name. A consecration for these Internationals created in 2018 by the tennis section of Stade-Toulousain.
For Marc Tiersonnier, co-director of the tournament and president of the Stade Toulousain Tennis Club, it is a source of great pride: “For the 2022 edition, our motivation will be even stronger to make this tournament one of the major sporting events in the region by associating a historic & emblematic club with one of the favorite sports of the French. Last step before the ATP 250 tournaments, the Challenger tournaments evaluate very high level professional tennis players.“
The event will be held from August 28 to September 04, 2022 on the clay courts of Sept-Deniers.
If the 2020 and 2021 editions could not take place because of the health crisis, the 2019 edition was notified by the victory of the Toulouse player Benjamin Bonzi then 23 years old. Today Benjamin Bonzi, 50th player in the world will play the US Open at the same time as the Toulouse International. Just like Toulouse’s Hugo Gaston, today ranked 71st at ATP.
